Much has happened in Augusta since my last update.
1. The Maine Senate Votes to Impose National Popular Vote on the Maine people.
2. Volunteers deliver your petitions against "Red Flag" Gun Confiscation Orders.
3. Public hearings held on a "Tsunami" of Gun Control bills.
I've covered each of these topics in detail below, including actionable steps you can take TODAY to make a difference on each issue.
The State Senate Votes 19-16 to Give Away
Maine's Electoral Power to NYC, Chicago and Los Angeles
First, some bad news.
The Maine Senate voted 19-16 yesterday to bind Maine's 4 Electoral College votes to the so-called "National Popular Vote," overturning the majority "Ought Not to Pass" report of the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee.
I won't mince words. This is a betrayal of the Maine people.
The Electoral College was designed to give small states like Maine a voice and ensure Presidential candidates seek to represent the broad interests of the entire nation, not only the narrow interests of a few big population centers.
But yesterday, these 19 Senators (all Democrats) voted to put partisan interests over the interests of Maine people.
They believe a National Popular Vote system will be more likely to elect a Democrat President, so they have surrendered Maine's electoral power to big cities like New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles.
There are only two opportunities left to defeat National Popular Vote. And I need your help.
The House of Representatives is expected to vote TOMORROW on this bill to strip Maine of its electoral voice. Please take a moment right now to call or email your State Representative and tell them: "No National Popular Vote!"
And if the bill passes tomorrow in the House of Representatives, it will head to the desk of Governor Janet Mills.
To this point, Governor Mills has made no public statements on this legislation. No one knows for certain if she will sign it or veto it.
That's why we delivered thousand of your petitions to her office last week, but it's not enough!
Governor Janet Mills needs to hear directly from you!
Call Governor Janet Mills' office and ask her to "Veto National Popular Vote!"

Your Petitions Against "Red Flag" Gun Confiscation Delivered!
(...to everyone but Senator Brownie Carson)
Last Thursday was a busy day in the Free Maine Campaign Office as volunteers joined me (one coming as far away as Aroostook County) in Auburn to sort thousands of petitions against "Red Flag" Gun Confiscation Orders.
For months, people have been signing our petition online at FreeMaine.org.
We had to sort through and organize all of them to ensure each one got to the proper elected official.
Thankfully, many hands made light work and we were ready for delivery at the State House the following day.
1. The staffer in Governor Janet Mills’ Office was just as surprised (but friendly) receiving a mountain of petitions on his desk against Gun Confiscation as he was the week before (when I gave him the mountain of petitions against the National Popular Vote).2. It was a team effort getting petitions into each of the mailboxes for the House Republicans and Democrats. I’m glad we had so many volunteers to help.
3. Anna in the Senate Republican Office was happy to receive the petitions and put them in the hands of her Senators. Staff in the Senate Democrat Office was also helpful and friendly.
4. It wouldn’t have been a complete trip if we didn’t stop by Senate President Troy Jackson’s Office to deliver his constituents’ petitions.
But not everyone was so happy to receive these petitions from their constituents.
Later that day, Senator Brownie Carson tracked me down, terribly irate.
He was offended that his constituents would send him these petitions, considering he is an unapologetic advocate for gun control and a co-sponsor of the Red Flag Gun Confiscation bill.
Senator Carson gave the petitions back to me (from his constituents in Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, North Yarmouth and Pownal) with a note on the envelope: “Please don’t give me any more of this. -Brownie”
As a former State Senator who served for four years, it's shocking to me that a representative of the people would disrespect his constituents in such a manner, refusing to receive their petitions.
Senator Brownie Carson says he doesn't want anymore petitions. I say its time to DOUBLE DOWN.

"Gun Control Tsunami" Hits Augusta!
In addition to delivering your petitions against Red Flag Gun Confiscation, Friday was a big day for our 2nd Amendment rights as the "Gun Control Tsunami" hit Augusta, but the Free Maine grassroots hit harder.
Ten different bills seeking to restrict our firearm rights were up for public hearing in the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee. Some proposals seek to overturn the Maine people's rejection of the Michael Bloomberg Question 3 Background Check Referendum. Other proposals seek to impose 72 hour waiting periods on gun purchases, mandatory gun safe requirements and a ban on standard capacity magazines.
But those of use fighting for a Free Maine showed up in force by the hundreds, outnumbering gun control proponents at least ten to one.
We had a "Rally for our Rights" beforehand in the Hall of Flags, featuring not only myself, but also former Congressman Bruce Poliquin, Mayor Nick Isgro and legislative champions who are fighting for us every day in the halls of Augusta.
We had such a huge turnout that the public hearings lasted for nearly ten hours, as people from all across Maine waited their turn to tell the committee to uphold our 2nd Amendment rights.
The Committee vote on all these bills will take place THIS FRIDAY, so it is vital that the committee hear from you.

Members of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee,
The Declaration of Rights in the Maine Constitution reads, "Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned."
As a citizen of the State of Maine, I support our Constitution and that is why I ask you to oppose all gun control proposals before your committee and support LD 533, "Stand Your Ground."
With some of the strongest 2nd Amendment protections in the nation, Maine is consistently ranked the safest state in the nation. Every gun control proposal before the committee is not only unnecessary, but also, by making it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise the right of self-defense, Maine people will be out in increased danger. Please vote "No" on all of them.
LD 533, Stand Your Ground, is the only firearms bill before you consistent with our Constitution. By eliminating the duty to retreat when an attacker is threatening to harm you or your loved ones, this bill would restore the right of self-defense. Please vote "Yes" on LD 533.
Thank you for all your support and action in the fight for a Free Maine.
We are leading the freedom resistance everyday --- with your help.
